Dear Trek Dealer,
A small number of the Trek model MT220 girls' bicycle were made with a frame that was welded incorrectly. The weld could break, which could allow the frame to separate at the head tube.

CORRECTIVE ACTIONS TAKEN BY TREK

We have ordered replacement bicycles to fill requests from consumers. We have also sent letters to all owners of affected models who registered their bicycle with us.
In addition, we have prepared posters to alert consumers who come into your store. If you need additional posters, please contact Customer Service at 800.879.8735. Further, we have posted notice of this recall on our consumer website at www.trekbikes.com.
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO NOW
1.. Immediately stop selling all affected Trek MT220 girls' bicycles.
2.. Please post the provided recall poster(s) in a prominent place in your store for at least 120 days.
3.. Contact all known owners of the affected bicycles. Tell them to stop riding the bicycle, and ask that they bring the bicycle into your store for an inspection.
4.. If you would like us to contact your customers, provide that information to your inside salesperson and we will contact your customers directly.
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO NEXT
You should inspect your inventory to see if you still have any affected frames. The affected frames are limited to those without a frame gusset and only include model years 2005, 2006, and 2007. If the frame is a different color or has a gusset, it is not part of this recall.
ORDERING AND RECEIVING REPLACEMENT BICYCLES
We will replace affected bicycles with a new Trek MT220 girls' bicycle, or at your customers' option, offer a $100 credit for them to purchase a new Trek bicycle of their choice.
HANDLING AFFECTED BICYCLES
If a consumer brings an affected bicycle to you, or if you have affected bicycles in stock, contact your Trek Customer Service Representative. They will arrange for shipment of a new bicycle, create a credit (see below), and ask you to destroy the bike to prevent further use. To show you have destroyed the bike, you must cut the bottom bracket shell and the lower head lug (showing 2" of both the down tube and head tube) out of the recalled frame, and send us a picture of the frame sections.
RECEIVING CREDITS
Your Customer Service Representative will arrange to ship a replacement MT220 or to supply a $100 credit that the customer can use toward the purchase of a new Trek bicycle of their choice. Your Customer Service Representative will also arrange for a $15 labor credit for your store to cover destruction of the recalled bicycle and assembly of a new one.
